Google Cloud outage affected many services including Apple

Multiple regions in the US experienced an extended outage of Google Cloud services last weekend. The incident affected some of their significant customers, including Snapchat, Shopify and Apple, that recently moved to Google Cloud.

On Sunday, June 2, around noon, Google reported an issue with its Google Compute Engine, a virtual machine that enables scaling from single instances to global. The problems started occurring when consumers could sporadically connect to their favourite channels such as YouTube or Gmail. Other services, such as Google Calendar or Drive, were also disrupted.

The regions affected were mostly in the eastern USA, but users from other locations in the states and Europe also experienced various network congestion and slower performance. By the end of the day, the issues were resolved. Google provided a detailed report about the incident.
