Crystalloids Goes Over the Edge for Make-A-Wish Foundation

The thrill of giving back takes on a whole new meaning for Crystalloids. We are excited to partner with Google to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a fantastic organization that fulfils wishes for children facing critical illnesses. 

To raise funds and awareness, a dedicated group of our colleagues is stepping up to take on a significant challenge: the Rope for Hope. This event, taking place on 7th June, 2024 involves rappelling down the 100-meter WTC Amsterdam building, a test of courage demonstrating their commitment to this worthy cause.

What is the Make-A-Wish Foundation?

Make-A-Wish® is a non-profit organization with 40 affiliates that fulfils the life-changing wishes of children with critical illnesses. Their mission is to grant the wish to every eligible child and experience the power of a wish that can bring strength, hope, and joy. They work with healthcare professionals and families to understand a child's wish and create an unforgettable experience.

Meet the Daring Duo

Maarten and Theo are two Crystalloids team members stepping up for Make-A-Wish. Maarten, a data specialist with various interests, brings a wealth of experience to the team. You might find him exploring his love of philosophy, photography, botany, or history outside of work. A self-described "gamer," Maarten isn't afraid to take on challenges, even when they involve facing his fears head-on, like the upcoming rappel.

A computer science engineering student and intern, Theo adds youthful energy to the group. This guitar-loving enthusiast enjoys activities that get his adrenaline pumping, and his experience with five bungee jumps proves that. However, rappelling down a building presents a new challenge for him. While he embraces the unknown, Theo admits his most important thrill is contributing to this meaningful cause.

Why They Repel

While their backgrounds and experiences differ, Maarten and Theo share a clear motivation: a desire to help seriously ill children. 

As Maarten states, "Charity events for children are a cause worth fighting for. Make-A-Wish grants wishes that bring joy and hope to kids facing immense challenges. It's a privilege to be a part of something that can make a positive impact and grant a wish here for a child who truly needs to fight." 

Theo echoes this sentiment, expressing his hope that "this event will spread awareness and encourage more people to get involved. Make-A-Wish relies on the generosity of donors, and every contribution brings them closer to fulfilling these incredible wishes to children."

The Road to the Big Day

Maarten approaches the rappel with a calm determination, choosing not to overthink the specifics. Theo, with his experience in high-adrenaline activities,  manages his excitement differently. By minimizing the details he seeks beforehand, he aims to heighten the thrill of the unknown on the big day.
